![]() acquired the landmark spy-themed bar in the alley at 779 N. We tipped her in person, not the waitress who never returned to apologize. You will still need to know the password or be willing to perform an embarrassing trick to gain clearance for admission, but once inside the newly renovated SafeHouse bar and restaurant in downtown Milwaukee, you will notice a more upscale experience. To her credit, she "comped" the poor meals and asked us to give them another chance sometime. Our host spoke with the manager at the check-in desk who apologized and agreed that both the service and food were unacceptable. So, after two hours, we had nothing to show for visiting this restaurant, and again, our waitress was nowhere to be seen. It would have been worth it had the food been great-but not so! We waited 10 minutes for a waitress, another 10 minutes before beverages were served, another 15 minutes before an appetizer arrived and almost an hour before our dinners arrived-COLD. high students, and the wait for a table (no reservations accepted and 45 minutes on a Wednesday night) with nowhere to hang out with kids is ridiculous. This is a poor excuse for a themed restaurant which caters more to the Millennial crowd despite being listed as "family friendly." The scavenger hunt, posters, decor are of no interest to middle schoolers/jr. For a place that's been around so long, we were really disappointed with the service. They have a unique place and have created a destination point. ![]() They definetly need to update many things. It was serioulsy painful, probably as much as reading this. They could turn tables so much faster if they could improve on their service. We were in there for two and a half hours for lunch. The place wasn't even that crowded, so it was hard to understand what was going on. So we sat and waited for our server to come back to correct our bill. The 2 appetizers were still on the check. Finally, after getting up and asking the reception desk, did we get our check. No refills, no one to clear our table, it was crazy. We were done and couldn't find our server to bring our check. ![]() ![]() We said we were no longer interested in an appetizer after we were almost done with our lunch. Our server said she would put our appetizer order in. Our lunch came out and we never got our appetizers. We told our server after we got our food, since someone else brought our meal. We ordered appetizers and made them take our lunch order at the same time, fearfull, they would never return. I had to get up and ask someone to take our order. No one came back to take our order after we got our drinks. Meanwhile we have three kids that are getting anxious. We didn't even order mixed drinks, just sodas. It took forever for someone to come to take our drink order. We all enjoyed it since it was our first time so it was no big deal waiting for our table. Understandable, we waited for a table, since it was a weekend and a little after lunch hour. There is a lot of waiting at the Safe House. It was a fun afternoon and really unique to visit. This is about an experience. Our grandchildren loved the experience! From walking down the alley, to the unmarked entrance, getting in the door, etc.
